A Guide
To Fixing A Slow PC
There are many factors that slow down the
computer and affect its performance. A few of the main
causes would be short hard disk drive on available disk
space, data corruption, a large number of installed and
uninstalled software programs leading to corrupt files and
confusing the program, computer overheating, and bad
hardware.
Fixing A Slow PC
If the hard disk drive is
smaller than 2GB on your computer, make sure that at least
200MB space is available. For a bigger hard disk, you must have
at least 500MB of free hard disk space
available. Anything
less than 32MB of RAM just isn't enough, and 64MB is
better still. This makes free
space room for temporary files, and also allows your PC
to swap files. If there are more applications, Windows
starts using virtual memory when it runs out of RAM,
making the system run slowly.

When fixing a slow PC,
run scandisk to show if there is anything wrong with the hard
drive of the computer. Running defrag is the first and easiest
things that can be done to energize the
PC. I
defrag my hard drive every four or five days. I perform
this operation after doing maintenance chores like
cleaning out crusty old .tmp and .bak files, moving
around lots of data, or before installing new
programs.
Some programs don’t release the resources after they close.
This makes less RAM available for certain applications. For
fixing a slow PC, use a MemTurbo utility that flushes out the
memory that has been used up by DLL files, no longer in
operation. This is a simple utility, easy to
understand.
A lot of the sluggishness
of your PC is caused by spontaneous corrupt programs, and
erratic response time, and slows the overall speed of the
computer. Computer viruses also destroy the files and use up
the available resources and memory on the hard
disk. Some
programs won't release resources after you've closed
them, which mean that you have less RAM available for
other applications. For fixing a slow PC, restart
Windows. Check for your antivirus software like AVG, and
make sure that it’s updated, and that you can use it with
your system. Use the antivirus program a few times to
make sure that you don’t have any malware or virus on
your computer.
When fixing a slow PC, uninstall the programs that you don’t
use any longer. Make sure that you don’t have any viruses,
install more RAM, and be attentive to memory leaks programmed
corrupt. For using any applications such as movies or
plaintiffs photography, try to avoid running other programs
simultaneously.
For fixing a slow PC, you should also clean the registry.
Registry cleaning software can be downloaded from Registry
Ware. This program
can help you to repair the registry and speed up the computer
performance. However, when walking through the program, be
caution while making some decisions. It can be risky to fix the
registry yourself, so your best bet is to read the
recommendations of the
programs.
