A Guide
To Making The Computer Faster
Computers are great devices for making our
daily lives easier and helping to get work done a lot
quicker, and more interesting. But garbage can build up in
our systems through the internet, affecting its
performance and speed.
Steps for
Making the Computer
Faster
There is a lot that can
be done to increase the speed of the computer. For making the
computer faster, clean up the disk. Delete the programs that
aren’t needed, especially the ones that come up during startup,
defragment the drive and run Disk Cleanup. Usually
temporary
Internet files take the most amount of space because the
browser catches each page you visit for faster access
later. These are good ways
for the initial steps that marginally improve the
application load and boot
time.
·
Remove temporary
Internet files.
·
Remove downloaded
program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX
controls.)
·
Empty the Recycle
Bin.
·
Remove Windows
temporary files.
·
Remove optional
Windows components that you don't
use.
·
Remove installed programs that you no longer
use.

Another step for making the computer faster is to stop the
auto-starting programs. Click on the Start button, choosing the
run, and type in “msconfig” at the command prompt. This will
give you a list of all the programs that are loaded when you
launch the PC. You should realize that there are many systems
that you don’t use, so you can easily turn off anything that
you don’t need. It is important however to keep the anti-virus
and other important system components
enabled.
For making the computer
faster, you should run a full anti-spyware and anti-virus
scan. Spyware
can steal personal information without you being aware of
it and without asking for permission. From web sites you
visit, to usernames and passwords, spyware can put you
and your identity at risk. Spyware can also hamper your
computer's performance. There are some free
programs such as Malwarebytes, AVG free anti-virus and
SUPERAntiSpyware remover that are pretty effective in
cleaning up.
The next step for making the
computer faster is to clean up your registry. A good free
program is CCleaner, and is
worth taking the time to run. It erases the unused files
from your computer and frees up a lot of valuable hard
disk space making Windows run faster.
Keep as little programs as
possible running on the System Tray. Do this by reducing
the number of programs that start during Windows
start-up.
Another good idea using the above steps for
making the computer faster, you can also upgrade your
RAM. Some older systems hardly had enough RAM, but
up-to-date operating systems and applications take up a
lot of memory. You can add a high-capacity stick of
quality RAM, and it will instantly boost the speed of
your PC.
Now, it might be the
right time to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the
applications. Wiping out years of garbles registry entries,
temp files and old software programs will help in making the
computer faster. On all systems, shut down all open programs.
Restart the computer with a floppy in the A: drive. At the A:
prompt, type Format: C. Answer "yes" to the warning; you now
wipe out all the data. After the reformat finishes, put the
Windows installation CD in the CD drive and remove the floppy.
Restart and re-install Windows. Make sure that you make a
backup of all the data.
Another tip for
making the computer faster is to upgrade the hard drive.
It is complicated, but if you reinstall Windows, you
should upgrade to a faster and bigger hard drive. Storage
capacity of a hard disk can slow the performance of any
computer, and over the time, magnetic disks also ware
down. A failing hard drive can cause some performance
issues.
Spyware removal, powerful
protection against viruses, spyware, trojans, worms,
malware, rootkits, dialers, and much more ‐ in one easy to
use application.
